A third explores a young man's life in 1914 during the Meiji era, focusing on his friendship with an older man and themes of isolation, egoism, and guilt. A retelling of the Greek story of Damon and Pythias highlights unwavering friendship as the protagonist works to save his friend's life. A short tale involves the Buddha noticing a criminal in Hell who once showed kindness to a spider, offering a chance for redemption through a spider's thread. Lastly, an artist commissioned to paint Buddhist Hell subjects torments the lord's staff to imagine the scenes, leading to household turmoil and destruction.
