Adapted from Kaori Kimeki's fantasy manga, which was serialized in the "Princess" magazine, the first episode premiered in theaters on July 9, 1988, alongside a digest edition of the Aim for the Ace 2 OVA series. The complete series was later distributed on VHS starting September 1, 1988.
