Haibane Renmei

A girl named Rakka emerges from a large cocoon into a place called the Old Home, where she is met by other girls who have small wings and glowing halos. As her own wings develop and a halo is given to her, she is assigned to work in the town of Grie. She discovers that the town and their world are enclosed by a high, impassable wall, which only a figure known as Toga is permitted to leave.
