Naze Ikiru: Rennyo Shounin to Yoshizaki Enjou

Ryōken is a man who resents temples and monks due to personal hardship and the loss of his unborn child. During a period of deep despair, he encounters the teachings of the priest Rennyo, who shares the philosophy of "why we live" based on the monk Shinran's beliefs. Inspired, Ryōken becomes Rennyo’s apprentice. As Rennyo’s influence grows, rival Buddhist sects oppose him, forcing both men to flee Kyoto. They settle in Yoshizaki, a town in the Hokuriku region, in search of a new place to practice their faith.
