In a futuristic city named Heartland, a young amateur duelist named Tsukumo Yuma dreams of becoming a Duel Monsters champion. During a match against a school bully, a mysterious entity named Astral appears and assists Yuma in winning. Astral reveals that his memories have been transformed into 99 special cards known as "Numbers," which are Xyz Monsters capable of influencing duelists by amplifying their darkest impulses. These cards are scattered worldwide. To regain his lost memories, Astral forms an alliance with Yuma to locate and collect the "Numbers" cards.
