A prolonged conflict has raged for five years against an unidentified adversary. The residents of the isolated island Aoshima remain largely unaware of the harsh realities on the mainland until a sudden shift occurs. Every Friday at the fifth hour, selected scholars are dispatched to the front lines. Saku and Miyako are deemed unsuitable for duty, the reasons undisclosed.
