A long civil war between the North and South ended when the North, using dark magic to create powerful warrior creatures known as Incarnates, gained the upper hand. Now, in the aftermath of peace, these beings, referred to as Sacred Beasts, must either adapt to civilian life or be killed by Beast Hunters. Nancy Schaal Bancroft, born to an Incarnate, takes on the role of tracking down one of these hunters. As she closes in on her target, she uncovers difficult realities about the existence of the Sacred Beasts.
