Two physicians, the young and popular Osanai and the experienced and driven Tatsugaura, are studying the rare 'Monmow' disease, which appears only in a secluded village and causes unusual bone changes, leading victims to resemble beasts before dying. Osanai is dispatched to the village by Tatsugaura to investigate the disease's origin and provide care to the affected. Unbeknownst to Osanai, Tatsugaura is plotting against him, planning to infect him with the disease to eliminate competition for recognition and advancement in the medical field.
