Twenty-nine years after Tokyo became Japan's capital, a string of strange and unexplained crimes occurs in the city of Kawara. A mysterious flame demon, a dark red princess, a firefly seller, and puppeteers are seen near the crime scenes. The responsible party could be supernatural beings or people driven by their darker impulses. Hirakawa Shintaro, a journalist, is looking into these cases with the assistance of Manzo. As they dig deeper, their inquiry leads them into a mystery involving the Takatsukasa family.
