After the death of her husband, Shuko Yakumo loses interest in cooking and life itself. Her neighbor, Shohei Yamato, a high school baseball player who lives alone, disrupts her isolation. Shohei has an enormous appetite, which inspires Shuko to take on a new challenge. As she starts preparing meals for him, Shuko gradually finds a renewed sense of purpose. The story explores how this simple act of cooking for another person may help her rediscover joy. Two additional chapters are included.
