In 1978, after graduating from Osaka Designers' College, he joined [Anime R](https://anilist.co/studio/971/). There he was a part of Studio 1, led by [Moriyasu Taniguchi](https://anilist.co/staff/106638/). At this time [Hiroyuki Okiura](https://anilist.co/staff/103502/) and [Hiroshi Ousaka](https://anilist.co/staff/107410/) were also a part of the studio. He was also one of the many animators influenced by [Yoshinori Kanada](https://anilist.co/staff/106398/), and had emerged as an outstanding action animator among the Kanada followers of the time.
He went freelance in 1989, and has since mostly done contractual work with [OLM](https://anilist.co/studio/28/).
Married to fellow animator [Mizue Ogawa](https://anilist.co/staff/134341/).
