100 Banme no Saru

An anime adaptation of a 1981 book by Ken Keyes, Jr., which itself is based on a 1952 experiment on Kojima Island in southern Japan. The story centers on monkeys learning to wash their food, with one teaching the skill to others. Once a number—suggested to be 100—have learned, the remaining monkeys seem to acquire the knowledge suddenly. Remarkably, another group of apes on a different island also appears to learn the behavior. Keyes uses this anecdote as a metaphor for the antinuclear movement, suggesting that widespread change is possible when enough people unite.
