This episode draws heavily from the Kibitsuhiko no Mikoto legend. Tenchi and Momo encounter Inukai Takeru, Sasa Morihiko, and Tome Tamaomi, who are retainers of the Emperor's prince in the original tale. These characters bear a resemblance to Hachiko, Touri, and Hana. As Tenchi continues his search, the group joins him to find a monster ravaging the area. They discover and engage in a brief battle with a Ryoko, which serves as the monster in this context. The Ryoko does not recognize Tenchi during the confrontation. First Class Detective Mihoshi arrives wearing a battle suit to arrest the creature. In the source material, the prince and his three retainers defeat an Oni, but here the dynamic involves the Ryoko and Mihoshi's intervention.
