Mrs. Lynde makes rude comments regarding Anne's physical appearance, which deeply offends the young girl. In response, Anne verbally confronts and scolds Mrs. Lynde for her impolite behavior. Although Mrs. Lynde was incorrect in her remarks, Anne realizes that her own reaction was inappropriate. She must come to terms with her actions and understand the importance of offering a sincere apology for her outburst, even when provoked by someone else's fault.
