Mashiro begins his role as an assistant for Nizuma, joining Shinta Fukuda and Takurou Nakai. Fukuda previously placed lower than Mashiro in NEXT, while Nakai won an award 10 years ago but has achieved nothing notable since. Although Fukuda and Nizuma question why Mashiro chooses this path over seeking publication, he remains focused on learning to assist Takagi. Fukuda observes that the series "Crow" risks cancellation once its novelty fades unless Nizuma enhances its substance and interest. Consequently, Nizuma modifies the story structure and decides to meet with his editor to address these concerns.
