Shortly after receiving his grimoire, Asta retreats to the woods to practice with his anti-magic sword. There, he encounters Fanzell Kruger, a wind magic user capable of forming blades from air, who is searching for his missing fiancée, Dominante Code. Fanzell agrees to help Asta with his training. During their time in the forest, an unknown individual attacks Fanzell with the intent to kill him.
