Nimaiya explains to Renji that he forged all Zanpakuto over millennia, noting Kenpachi’s was stolen and Ichigo’s was not an Asauchi, rendering his training ineffective. Ichigo visits Ikumi Unagiya, who comforts him before Isshin Kurosaki arrives in Soul Reaper attire to depart with him, leaving his badge behind. Isshin shares family history, revealing Ichigo’s mother was a Quincy. Nearly twenty years ago, as captain of Division 10, Isshin Shiba investigated mysterious deaths in Naraki City caused by White, a Hollow formed from dead Soul Reapers. Masaki Kurosaki, an Echt Quincy noble raised by Souken Ishida’s family, sensed the battle and intervened despite objections from Ryuuken and Kanae Katagiri. During the fight, Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Kaname Tousen ambushed Isshin. Masaki saved Isshin, and Aizen spared her due to intrigue. Masaki lured the Hollow to destroy it, shielding Isshin from the blast. She healed him and revealed her Quincy heritage, which Isshin accepted happily. Ryuuken and Kanae departed after ensuring her safety. In the present, Haschwalth meets Uryuu.
