Following his detention by Makima, a Public Safety Devil Hunter, Denji becomes infatuated with her due to her suggestive behavior. He travels to the Devil Hunters Headquarters in Tokyo to join her team. Upon arrival, he is introduced to Aki Hayakawa, the senior hunter designated as his partner. Instead of welcoming him, Hayakawa physically assaults Denji and orders him to quit the job immediately.
