Fuku-chan no Sensuikan

A popular newspaper comic strip character in Japan, Fuku-chan appears in a film depicting a submarine launching an attack on an enemy cargo ship. The film aimed to promote patriotism, but children were especially drawn to scenes showing the submarine's kitchen crew preparing meals. At the time of its November release, Japan faced severe food shortages. Inside the submarine, however, there was an ample supply of food—vegetables, fruits, fish, rice, and other items considered luxuries—cooked into various dishes while accompanied by a cheerful, rhythmic song.
