The story opens with a battle between swordsmen and senshi, resulting in heavy casualties for the former. Yajiro Kojima, the samurai leader, orders a retreat while drawing enemy fire to allow his men to escape. Cornered and injured, he hides in a hot spring and meets Rushuna Tendō, who claims to be a traveler. She helps him evade capture, prompting him to warn her of the dangers ahead. A subsequent attempt to retake the castle fails. Rushuna intervenes again, saving Yajiro by shooting other senshi, revealing her true identity as a highly skilled fighter. She demonstrates exceptional control by incapacitating opponents without killing them, a technique attributed to her female mentor shown at the end.
