Hi Score Girl

In 1991, a sixth-grade boy named Haruo is deeply passionate about video games but lacks popularity, physical appeal, humor, or social charm. His only notable strength is his gaming skill. At an arcade, he faces off against Akira, a classmate who is well-liked, intelligent, and wealthy. She defeats him repeatedly in Street Fighter II and outperforms him in all games. Despite his efforts, Haruo cannot overcome her. Akira continues to challenge him daily at arcades after school, consistently winning. Over time, the two develop an unusual friendship.
