Following the previous episode, Kumiko denies romance with Shuuichi, easing Hazuki and Sapphire’s concerns. As the Agata festival approaches, band members arrange attendance, revealing Gotou Takuya and Nagase Riko are dating. Shuuichi invites Kumiko, sparking a triangle with Hazuki. Kumiko’s avoidance fails, leading Shuuichi to attend with Hazuki while Kumiko goes with Kousaka Reina. At the festival, Hazuki confesses to Shuuichi but is rejected; she then supports his relationship with Kumiko, comparing her role to a tuba’s supportive function. Meanwhile, Kumiko and Reina ignore the event to climb Mount Daikichi with instruments. Reina admits her attraction to Kumiko’s true, distant nature and her desire to be special rather than fit in, explaining her trumpet playing. The day concludes with the pair performing a middle school repertoire piece on the mountain, setting the stage for auditions.
