Ihrie reprimands Fam for her slow progress in memorizing new spells, prompting Fam to flee into the woods. There, she meets Lyle and falls deeply in love with him. Lyle is also searching for the Ultimate Power, so the two join forces to locate the remaining treasures. Eventually, Fam, Lyle, Ihrie, Miguel, Rasha, and Galuff arrive at a ruined city where the Sword of Sargus is located. They encounter Ruguduroll, who mocks Lyle and demonstrates invulnerability to both swords and magic before disappearing, leaving the sword behind. Lyle explains that Ruguduroll was once a priest in his homeland who was corrupted by magic, destroying the entire kingdom and Lyle's fiancée, Meria. This tragedy drives Lyle's desire for the Ultimate Power as an act of revenge.
