Vitalis departs to find employment, leaving Remi in the care of a friend during the winter season. The individual entrusted with Remi's guardianship is a new master who cares for other children. However, this person engages in the mistreatment and exploitation of these youths. Remi finds herself in a difficult situation under this new caretaker's supervision while her original guardian is away pursuing work opportunities.
