Both ZAFT and the Earth Alliance launch Operation Spitbreak, convinced they have successfully outmaneuvered their opponent. As part of this strategic maneuver, the Archangel is abandoned on the battlefield with the expectation that it will be completely destroyed. The conflict escalates with the intent to decimate all forces present in the area. However, the anticipated annihilation is interrupted when Kira intervenes. He arrives at the critical moment to rescue the crew and vessel from the impending disaster, altering the outcome of the engagement and preventing the total loss of life that the opposing sides had calculated.
