Mahjong Hishou-den Naki no Ryuu: Hiryuu no Shou

A 1991 OVA produced independently by Toshiba, this installment differs from earlier entries in the series. The main character, known as Ryuu or Crying Dragon, is an enigmatic figure who frequently engages in games with a group of gang members. He only secures victories through "ron," a mahjong technique where a player completes a winning hand using a tile discarded by an opponent. The term "ron" is also referred to as "Naki" in the game, a word that shares its pronunciation with the Japanese term for "crying." The OVA is part of the Mahjong Hishouden Naki no Ryuu franchise, which originated from a manga created by Nojo Junichi during the 1980s and 1990s.
