The group encounters tournament participants Kurumi Shiroi, Kinji Ogawara, Naoto Kishitami, and Kunikazu Kisaki, each carrying a chess piece charm. Ogawara recounts how player Ryoichiro Saso was betrayed by his phone tune, Amazing Grace. During the tournament, Shiratori loses his match against Kuroda after a phone ring causes a distraction. Later, Shiratori realizes he lost his lucky charm and returns to the venue to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Kuroda greets Kobayashi and Rumi, claiming to have met Rumi before the burning tent murder case, which she denies.
