A second DNA test using sterile samples reconfirms a rough match, leading Conan to his conclusion. He tranquilizes Kogoro and reveals that Banba and Kamon are opposite-sex identical twins. The secret phone calls were directed to a medical consultant, with the final call confirming the genetic match. Upon learning this truth, Kamon clasped her face into her hands, scratching some skin off, and committed suicide. In the aftermath, Amuro pays Kogoro to have him as his apprentice.
