As the finals draw near, the Earth Team readies itself for an upcoming race against Spirit. Both Don and Molly are horrified upon seeing the racer's face, suspecting a link to the incident that caused the death of Maya, who was Molly's mother and Don's wife years ago. During the competition, Molly's concentration is severely impaired by intense hatred. However, the truth eventually comes to light through revelations on two separate fronts, resolving the mystery surrounding the past tragedy.
