Yomiko Readman, an agent known as "The Paper," acquires a rare book titled "die Unsterbliche Liebe" containing handwritten sheet music. She is immediately attacked by a clone of Jean Henri Fabre, whom she defeats using her paper manipulation skills. Throughout the story, various superpowered clones, or I-Jin, of historical figures attempt to steal the book to reconstruct Ludwig van Beethoven's lost Death Symphony, which causes listeners to commit suicide. With help from friends Nancy Makuhari and Drake Anderson, Yomiko defeats the plot's leader, a clone of Zen poet Ikkyu Soujon. During the conflict, Yomiko loses Nancy and vows to care for Nancy's brain-damaged clone sister. This OVA, produced by Studio Deen and directed by Koji Masunari, continues the Read or Die storyline a few years after the original manga events.
