The original plan for the project featured a female lead and more detailed animation. However, after a decision by Yuji Matsukura, Katsushi Sakurabi, and Fumihiko Takayama, the direction was altered to include a male protagonist and less intricate animation. This change overrode Kiyoshi Sugiyama's initial vision. Sakurabi's original concept was developed into a pilot episode, which was later bundled with the seventh volume of the Limited Edition DVD Box Set.
