Kyo, Yuya, Benitora, and Okuni travel to the ocean of trees to locate Kyo's body. Yuya remains troubled by Akira's claims that he knew a man with a cross-shaped scar on his back, a detail Kyo knew better than anyone. Yuya resolves to follow Kyo to identify his brother's killer. Upon reaching the inn, Kubira, one of the twelve holy generals, attacks Kyo per The Person's orders. During the battle, Yuya observes the scar covering Kyo's back, leading him to suspect Kyo might be the murderer known as the man with a thousand corpses.
