Ep. 1: Theodor Eberbach trains Katia Waldheim after she defects to East Germany following a battle with the BETA.

The 666th Schwarzesmarken squadron engages the BETA under Comrade Captain Irisdina Bernhard. Pilot Anett Hosenfield suffers a nervous breakdown, leading to pilot Inghild Bronikowski being mortally wounded. Irisdina delivers a coup de grace to Inghild and reprimands Second Lieutenant Theodor Eberbach for not assisting Anett, assigning him to continue the mission while the body is recovered. Theodor later discovers an unconscious pilot in a fallen TSF, triggering a flashback to a failed defection and the loss of his adoptive sister, Lise. The pilot is revealed to be West German Second Lieutenant Katia Waldheim. Upon waking, she requests to defect to East Germany and join the 666th Squadron. Irisdina, consulting with party commissar Gretel Jackelyn, approves the request and places Theodor in charge of Katia to address his previous failure. Theodor warns Katia to trust no one, particularly the Stasi, noting that Irisdina betrayed her own brother to the Stasi to advance her career.
