Following the Great Disaster, Japan has collapsed into ruin. Kiruko agrees to a request to transport a boy named Maru to a location known as Heaven. In a contrasting setting, children reside within the walls of a nursery, enjoying lush green surroundings. Meanwhile, Tokio receives a cryptic message that causes him to question the nature of the world he inhabits. The narrative juxtaposes the dangerous journey of Kiruko and Maru with the isolated existence of the nursery children and Tokio's growing uncertainty about his reality.
