With winter coming to an end, Laura's father learns that flowers are beginning to bloom near Shimmer Lake. Consequently, the family and the Ham-Hams embark on a weekend excursion to find signs of spring. During their journey, Laura's father makes a navigational error, causing the entire group to arrive at a cold and gloomy location instead of their intended destination at Shimmer Lake.
