A deep-sea archaeologist named Hiroshi Ibuki is part of a team exploring the ocean floor to discover the origins of Earth. Instead, they find a colony of ancient bacteria that emit light resembling the Aurora Borealis. When these bacteria are revived, they begin altering the environment to make it suitable for their survival, a transformation that reverts Earth to a primitive state and threatens all existing life.
