Wangan Midnight

Based on a manga serialized in Young Magazine, the story is inspired by real-life street racing on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway, particularly the stretch known as the Wangan. Racing on this road is dangerous due to heavy traffic and powerful engines, often leading to wrecks and mechanical failures. Akio Asakura, a high school student, is challenged by Tatsuya Shima, a doctor, in a high-powered Porsche. After losing the race, Akio seeks to improve his Fairlady Z by purchasing parts. He discovers a nearly perfect, midnight blue Fairlady Z in a junkyard and buys it. The car is unexpectedly fast, equipped with a modified engine producing 620bhp. Akio learns that all previous owners of the car met with tragic accidents. The story follows Akio's experiences, focusing on his ongoing rivalry with the driver of the Porsche.
