Sartorius joined the Academy to advance his schemes from a more convenient location. When Chancellors selected field trip destinations, Sartorius and the Society of Light intended to choose, but Jaden intervened. They resolved the dispute through a duel between Jaden and Rose, an Obelisk Blue member who claimed to see duel spirits and used a toad monster deck identifying herself as their princess. Jaden won the match and selected Domino City, Yugi's hometown, for the trip. Sartorius later revealed that the duel served as a test to verify Jaden's ability to see duel spirits, and the visit to Domino City would assist in his subsequent plans.
