Milverton blackmails Mary by leveraging her past participation in anti-government activities. In response, Sherlock resolves to break into Milverton's residence to steal incriminating documents. However, Milverton had anticipated this intrusion. Upon entering the estate, Sherlock discovers that he is not the sole individual trespassing in the property, complicating his mission to recover the evidence and protect Mary from further coercion.
