Laurence, who was Ruby's friend, confidant, and father figure, has died, and his estranged son Zane unexpectedly appears during her time of grief. Zane had left home and cut all contact with others for some time. When he meets Ruby, he immediately dislikes her, believing she was his father’s mistress. Initially puzzled by his hostility, Ruby soon understands the misunderstanding. Despite her sorrow over Laurence's death, she attempts to clear up the situation. The challenge remains whether she can convince the stubborn Zane to reconsider his opinion of her.
