In 1199, a decade after Minamoto no Yoshitsune's death at Hiraizumi, Japan is ruled by his nephew, shogun Minamoto no Yoriie, who had conspired against Yoshitsune. Yoriie learns of lingering supporters of Yoshitsune and seeks to eliminate them. Unbeknownst to him, these followers remain influential, particularly Yoshitsune's surviving son, Hoshiwakamaru. With the help of pirates and corrupt officials, Hoshiwakamaru plots revenge against those responsible for his father's downfall. This alternate history narrative, set during the early Kamakura period, incorporates elements of fantasy.
