Three centuries ago, strange blue mists began emerging from the earth, halting the aging process and making all living beings immortal, with injuries healing instantly and disease no longer present. Paze Diamond is a maintenance worker responsible for the piping system that controls the mist's flow. Known locally for being clumsy and unlucky, he is searching for happiness without a clear understanding of what it entails. Around this time, he begins to see blue birds that appear only to him. During this period, Margaret Howell falls from the sky onto him. Margaret is cheerful and quickly becomes interested in Paze. Whether she represents the happiness he seeks remains uncertain.
