A small nation called Yamato is engaged in a war against the powerful military forces of Mars, facing certain defeat. On the island of Gallé in the South Pacific, where intense fighting occurs, Yamato's military is crumbling. Sergeant Tatsumi struggles to keep his regiment from falling apart as their situation worsens. When all seems lost, he witnesses an object named Kitetsu fall from a transport aircraft.
