Botchan

A recent graduate takes his first teaching job, unaware of the challenges ahead. He faces mischievous students and a landlord who tries to sell him useless antiques. Hoping to find relief, he goes fishing but begins to suspect his only village friend, Hotta, of causing his troubles. This is only the start of his difficulties. At a meeting addressing the students’ disrespectful actions, the suggested punishment is unexpectedly lenient despite the seriousness of the behavior. Surprisingly, the person Botchan believes to be his enemy comes to his defense. Were the other teachers lying about Hotta? When information about the dean’s actions emerges, Botchan and Hotta join forces to confront the dean in his own scandalous scheme.
