During the Taisho Era, a mysterious event takes place when the "red thread" linking people is severed. Sazuki, who works at his childhood friend's apothecary, struggles with his father's illness and addiction. His younger sister, Takamizu, was sold to a brothel to pay off their father's debts. One day, while dreaming of her, Sazuki encounters a strange monster. He witnesses a girl and a man defeating it. According to belief, when emotions become corrupted, the "kizuna" thread becomes tangled, resulting in the appearance of a deformed creature.
