In the 520th year of the Landa calendar, a military cadet named Sei competes in an annual fighting tournament. Born into a family of soldiers, Sei's victory is expected. Unaware of the full consequences of his win, Sei is observed from the balcony by Touri, a member of the aristocracy. Impressed by Sei's appearance and skill, Touri becomes determined to claim him.
