Gates have appeared, and Espers have become a form of national power. Cha Jae-U is South Korea's top S-Class Esper, but he has struggled to find a compatible guide. A mandatory guide test is introduced for all citizens. Hae-Yul takes the test and achieves an unusually high 97.8% match with Cha Jae-U, despite being a D-Class Guide. Hae-Yul is reluctant to accept the pairing, fearing danger and his own low status. However, he is told that without a guide, Cha Jae-U will die. Hae-Yul reluctantly agrees and begins living with Cha Jae-U, guiding him once daily with limited mana.
