A young member of the Rangae species, Viola, lives in a forest sanctuary where her kind develop a jewel in their hearts upon reaching adulthood. Before she can form hers, her village is attacked by human hunters. Because of her striking resemblance to a deceased empress, she is saved by Duke Khalid Alec Droy and placed in service to the fifth imperial prince. Struggling with the rigid social structures and harsh realities of palace life, Viola must confront her deep-seated animosity toward humans while uncovering the duke’s hidden motives.
