Genji Monogatari - Sennen no Nazo

A fictional account follows the life of a prince who is assigned to the Minamoto clan for political reasons and later reduced to commoner status. He adopts the name Genji and serves as an imperial official. The narrative focuses on his romantic relationships and the social customs of the aristocracy, highlighting his physical attractiveness and unwavering loyalty to the women in his life. He does not abandon any of his wives and, upon attaining great power, settles in a palace and supports each of them. The original literary work, attributed to a noblewoman in the early 11th century, is often discussed as a pioneering novel in world literature.
