In 1945, as the Pacific War ended, Earth faced an invasion by Phantom Beasts—extraterrestrial creatures that attacked humanity. In response, people around the world joined forces to combat this new enemy. Decades later, Japan's military is weakened due to heavy losses, prompting the country to conscript teenagers into service. Atsushi Hayami is one such student who abandons a typical high school experience to take part in the defense of humanity.
